  4. Nicolas, You are my Savior! Thank you! It's my first time studying quantum.(I took mathmphysics and thermo) Is shankar too difficult for beginner?

    1. Personally I think Griffiths is the clearest writer, and the best quantum book to start with. After that I think reading Shankar will help fill in some of the formalism that Griffiths leaves out; Griffiths really boils down the concepts, sometimes too much, so reading Shankar can give a different, clarifying perspective.

    2. :) Thanks for your kind reply. Actually, I didn't take classical mechanics course, yet. Is it okay to jump into Griffiths? If not, is reading ch2 of shankar(C.M review) enough?

      Delete
    3. Try it, if you can catch Griffith's flow, ride it, otherwise instead of floundering you should try some other wave of concepts you CAN catch.

    4. Thank you for the advice. Good luck with your study at Ohio :)

    5. I agree with Nicolas. I did Griffiths first and am doing Shankar now. Shankar is a whole lot more meaningful if you have done Griffiths first.

    6. i think Zettili is easiest to understand than Griffiths (although Griffiths is a great book) plus it has a lot of examples and solved exercises

  5. THIS IS GREAT! Thanks a lot! I study QM in Germany now and it´s 3rd time in my life when I try to dive in it :) concepts of QM seems to be just a bit..strange to me..hope Shankar will work!
    Thanks again, good luck!

    1. I have all the PDFs in my Dropbox account, and they just sent me an email. It turns out that they don't allow more than 20GBs/day to be downloaded, otherwise they suspend the account.
      --------
      Hi Nicolas,
This email is an automated notification from Dropbox that your Public links have been temporarily suspended for generating excessive traffic. Your Dropbox will continue to function normally with the exception of Public links. This suspension is temporary (3 days for the first time). Please visit Dropbox support if you have any questions.
      - The Dropbox Team
      --------

So, they should be back up in 2 days, and in the meantime I'll probably switch to Google Drive (although it'll be a hassle)

  31. Your site has been immensely helpful to me. I would now like to give back. I notice that you have no solutions for problem 17.2.5, which is one of the problems Shankar designated as "hard." I recently had to solve this problem for my graduate QM course, and would be happy to share my solution with you and all who venture here. Should this interest you, please email me at gaugeinvariance@openmailbox.org and I will happily send you a scanned pdf of the solution.

    5. Hello, here you have the reuploaded .rar that includes every solution linked here until today (but not the book itself):

      http://www.filedropper.com/shankarsol1

It would be better if someone could host this file permanently. Filedropper will remove it again eventually.

    2. Trackers are dead it seems. I could give you my ip:port so you can add me as a peer directly. Once a few people have it I think it will be easy for new people to find seeds. Do you have an email address?

      Delete
    3. I found some peers though, but they are only downloading a few files instead of the whole thing, they won't work as good seeds.

  58. To everyone who needs the solutions, just download a torrent client and then open this torrent:

There are a few seeds from time time, just be patient.

  59. Hey everyone, all the files are back online again.
After painfully slow email correspondence with DropBox, it turns out their algorithms thought that some of the large PDFs were malware. Sounds like they need to improve their algorithm.

  66. Hi
Thanks for this amazing work. I just started reading this amazing book, and having these solutions alongside helps me to verify mine own.

I find your solution to exercise 1.1.4 to be wrong. The answer is that they are linearly independent.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. If you solve the three variable simultaneously linear equations you obtained, the answer you get is a1=a2=a3=0. There is no other solution. Your statement that, "a1, a2 and a3 don't have to be 0 together' is wrong. They have to be.

Please explain in case I am wrong.
      Thanks
